If someone asked you to explain the word “autoeroticism,” would you be able to? It’s a fairly common term, but not one that’s easy to define, as it has varying degrees and dimensions. Most people have some autoerotic components to their sexuality. Literally, autoeroticism is being “turned on” by yourself, either by touch or just sight. This may sound vain, but it doesn’t really have much to do with narcissism, even though some people do enjoy “mirror sex” as much or more than partner stimulation. For others, autoeroticism might stem further into what can be called “autoromance,” where there is a loving, emotional bond with the self.
