PMS is great for selling products, telling vaguely sexist jokes, or even constructing legal arguments. Well, take a seat and get ready to be shocked: PMS is not a scientifically recognized biological phenomenon. Shifts in hormone levels are not tied to a woman’s reproductive cycle, nor do scientists even agree on which hormones influence PMS symptoms. A review of past studies on the subject has shown that they were organized in a leading fashion so that PMS followed a convenient, neat pattern.  Instead of actually measuring hormones and ovulatory markers, they assumed that women all have 28-day cycles and all ovulate right in the middle of them.
