Despite all the sex that pervades our culture, we are expected to stop being sexual beings about the time that AARP card comes in the mail. Actually, despite a cultural belief that sex is only for the young, over fifty percent of people between the ages of 65 and 74 are sexually active. When people get past this age and start living in nursing homes, the question of sex and the elderly becomes not just one of youth culture, but one of mental health and consent. If two people in a nursing home have onset dementia, and have intercourse because they forget they’re not married to each other, is it adultery?
