Fredric Neuman, director of the Anxiety and Phobia Center at White Plains Hospital, shares a based-on-real-life story: Felicia and Fernando speak with the gynecologist at the Woman’s Health Center and the staff psychiatrist. Neither has been unfaithful during their three years of marriage, but Felicia has somehow contracted gonorrhea. It turns out her husband, a sailor, and other members of the crew had been using the same inflatable sex doll and improper cleaning caused him to pass the disease of another man to his wife. While the story is written humorously and the STI in question is treatable, it’s a good reminder that dangerous sex practices might not always directly involve another person.
